Privacy policy
Last updated: 15 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information Ikhlas Halal Butcher collects when you use ikhlashalalbutcher.co.uk, order from us, or contact us, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are. We are the data controller. Our details are at the end.
What we collect
- Contact and order details: name, phone number, email address, delivery and billing address, what you ordered, how you want it prepared, any order notes, and your collection or delivery slot.
- Payment details: handled by Shopify Payments and our other payment providers. We see the payment method type and the last four digits of a card, never the full card number.
- Account details: if you create an account, your login email, order history and saved addresses.
- Messages: what you send us by email, WhatsApp, phone, the website chat or the contact form.
- Subscription details: box, frequency and billing history if you use Subscribe & Save.
- Website usage: device, browser, IP address, pages viewed and how you reached the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies below).
Why we use it and our lawful basis
- To fulfil your order: cutting, packing, taking payment, telling you when it is ready, delivering it and dealing with any problems. Basis: performance of a contract.
- To contact you about your order: for example if a cut is unavailable, the driver cannot find you, or you have asked a question. Basis: contract / legitimate interests.
- To keep records we are required to keep: invoices, payments, food-safety traceability and tax records. Basis: legal obligation.
- Marketing: news, offers and new products by email or text, only if you have ticked the box or asked us to. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by replying STOP to a text. Basis: consent.
- To run and improve the website: security, fraud prevention, understanding which pages and products people use. Basis: legitimate interests.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use automated decision-making that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
Who we share it with
- Shopify, which hosts our website, processes orders and payments and stores our customer records. Shopify processes some data as an independent controller; see the Shopify Customer Privacy Policy.
- Payment providers (Shopify Payments, and PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay if you choose them) to take your payment and prevent fraud.
- Apps that run parts of the service: our pickup, delivery and subscription scheduling app (Appstle), website chat (Shopify Inbox), translation and currency display, and email marketing tools. They process your data only on our instructions.
- Our own staff and driver, who see your name, address, phone number and order to prepare and deliver it. We do not use third-party couriers.
- Professional advisers and authorities: our accountant, and the police, courts, HMRC or environmental health where the law requires it.
Shopify and some apps store data outside the UK. Where personal data leaves the UK it is protected by the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or by an adequacy decision, as required by UK GDPR.
Cookies
The site uses cookies that are necessary for it to work (your basket, checkout, security and your delivery selection), and, if you accept them, analytics and marketing cookies that help us understand how the site is used and show relevant advertising. You can manage non-essential cookies through the cookie banner and in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop checkout from working.
How long we keep it
- Order, payment and invoice records: 6 years after the order, for tax and accounting law.
- Account details: for as long as your account is open, then deleted within 12 months of closure or of your request.
- Marketing preferences: until you unsubscribe, then we keep a record of the unsubscribe so we do not contact you again.
- Messages and enquiries: up to 2 years, unless they relate to an order or complaint we need to keep longer.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to: tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy; correct it; delete it; stop or restrict how we use it; give it to you or another provider in a usable format; and stop using it for marketing. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time. We will answer within one month and will not charge for a reasonable request. We may need to confirm your identity first.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@ikhlashalalbutcher.co.uk or write to the address below. You can also use the Shopify Privacy Portal for data Shopify holds as a controller.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concern first.
Children
Our website is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
Security
Checkout and account pages are encrypted (HTTPS). Payments are handled by PCI-DSS compliant providers. Access to customer data inside our shop is limited to the people who need it to serve you. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send card details by email or WhatsApp.
Changes
We will update this policy if our practices change and will show the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced on the website.
