Halal Assurance
Halal Assurance
100% HMC-certified halal. Every animal is hand-slaughtered and independently monitored by the Halal Monitoring Committee from abattoir to our Bradford counter, and prepared to HMC requirements. Our shop is listed on the HMC website, see our HMC page for what the certification covers.

A mature bird for rich, traditional stocks, yakhni and slow curries. Boil or slow-cook for a deep, old-fashioned flavour the younger birds simply cannot match. HMC-certified halal, prepared to order at our Bradford shop.

Why choose Ikhlas boiler hen?
- HMC-certified halal: independently monitored and fully traceable.
- Prepared fresh to order: from the chiller the day it goes out.
- A proper boiler: an older bird with flavour a young chicken has not had time to develop.
- Hard to buy on a supermarket shelf: a traditional bird most shops no longer carry.
- Vacuum-sealed & delivered chilled: freshness locked in from Bradford to your door.
How to cook boiler hen
A boiler is not a roasting bird. It is tougher and far more flavoursome, and it wants long, wet, gentle cooking.
Yakhni or stock: cover with cold water and simmer very gently for 2–3 hours until tender.
Slow curry: joint it, brown the pieces, then simmer covered for 1.5–2 hours.
Tip: never let it boil hard, a bare simmer keeps the meat tender and the broth clear.
Serving suggestions
The classic base for yakhni pulao, or as a rich chicken soup with the meat shredded back in.
