Halal Assurance
Halal Assurance
100% HMC-certified halal. Every animal is hand-slaughtered and independently monitored by the Halal Monitoring Committee from abattoir to our Bradford counter, and prepared to HMC requirements. Our shop is listed on the HMC website, see our HMC page for what the certification covers.

Pickle-style and unapologetically sharp, lime pickle, mango and mustard seed, the achari flavour in a spoonable form. Made in Bradford by Mumtaz and stocked at our City Road counter, so it comes in the same bag as your meat.

Why we stock it
- Made in Bradford: by Mumtaz, the same city as the shop.
- Sharp, not sweet: built on lime pickle and mango rather than sugar, so it cuts through rich meat instead of sitting on top of it.
- Ready to serve: straight from the bottle into a bowl.
- Halal throughout: suitable for a halal kitchen.
- Comes with the meat: add it to a counter order and it goes in the same bag.
How to use it
There is nothing to cook. The only thing that matters is temperature.
Serve: spoon it into a bowl and put it on the table.
Spread: through a wrap or a naan roll under the meat.
Chill: better cold than at room temperature, keep it in the fridge.
Tip: a small spoonful goes a long way. Achari is meant as a sharp accent on the side of the plate, not a sauce you cover the food in.
Goes well with
Plain rice and daal, grilled chops, paratha and anything that needs waking up.
Ingredients & allergens
The full ingredient list and allergen declaration are printed on the pack. Recipes are set by Mumtaz and can change, so please read the label on the bottle you receive rather than relying on this page. Contact us before ordering if you have a specific allergy and we will check the current pack for you.
Keep in a cool, dry cupboard until opened. Once opened, refrigerate and use within the period stated on the bottle.

Frequently asked questions
What does achari mean?
Pickle. It refers to the pickling spices, mustard, fenugreek, turmeric and asafoetida, rather than to any one fruit or vegetable.
Is it the same as the achari spice mix?
No. The spice mix is a dry blend you cook with; this is a finished chutney for the table.
Is it halal?
Yes. Mumtaz is a halal food producer and the whole range is suitable for a halal kitchen.
Where is it made?
Bradford. Mumtaz have produced from the city for over forty years, which is why we stock them alongside our own counter.
Do you deliver?
