Halal Assurance
Halal Assurance
100% HMC-certified halal. Every animal is hand-slaughtered and independently monitored by the Halal Monitoring Committee from abattoir to our Bradford counter, and prepared to HMC requirements. Our shop is listed on the HMC website, see our HMC page for what the certification covers.

The same karahi treatment pitched at red meat, heavier on the warm spices, because lamb and mutton need more than chicken does. Made in Bradford by Mumtaz and stocked at our City Road counter, so it comes in the same bag as your meat.

Why we stock it
- Made in Bradford: blended by Mumtaz in the same city as the shop.
- One pack, one dish: the whole spice mix for the dish is in the packet, no building a masala from eight jars.
- Consistent: the same result every time, which is hard to manage grinding your own.
- Halal throughout: suitable for a halal kitchen.
- Comes with the meat: add it to a counter order and it goes in the same bag.
How to use it
Red meat needs longer than chicken, so this is a karahi that starts fast and then waits.
Brown the meat: hard, in batches, so it colours instead of stewing.
Masala and tomato: cook it out until the oil separates.
Then leave it: 45–60 minutes covered for lamb, longer for mutton on the bone.
Tip: buy it on the bone. Karahi made with lamb mix or mutton mix on the bone is a different dish from one made with diced boneless.
Goes well with
Our lamb mix on the bone, mutton mix, diced boneless lamb or mutton chops.
Ingredients & allergens
The full ingredient list and allergen declaration are printed on the pack. Recipes are set by Mumtaz and can change, so please read the label on the jar or tub you receive rather than relying on this page. Contact us before ordering if you have a specific allergy and we will check the current pack for you.
Keep in a cool, dry cupboard out of direct sunlight. Reseal the pack after each use and use by the date printed on it.

Frequently asked questions
Lamb or mutton?
Both. Mutton takes longer and gives the deeper flavour, give it an extra half hour.
Is it hot?
Medium. It is built around warm spice rather than chilli heat, so you can add fresh green chilli to taste.
Is it halal?
Yes. Mumtaz is a halal food producer and the whole range is suitable for a halal kitchen.
Where is it made?
Bradford. Mumtaz have produced from the city for over forty years, which is why we stock them alongside our own counter.
