How much meat do I need for 10 people? Biryani, karahi and BBQ quantities

Tray of fresh-cut halal ribeye steaks, Ikhlas Halal Butcher, Bradford
A tray cut for a table of twelve. The rule is 250g on the bone per adult.

For ten adults, buy 2.5kg of meat on the bone or 2kg boneless for a curry, karahi or biryani; buy 3kg for a BBQ; and allow one large 2.5kg chicken for every four to five people. Those numbers assume rice or roti alongside and one main meat dish. If you are serving two meat dishes, halve each. This is what we tell customers at the counter, and what it costs at our September 2026 prices.

What ten people costs

A lamb karahi for ten from 2.5kg of on-the-bone lamb mix is £32.50. The same pot made with mutton mix is £20. A chicken curry for ten from two large birds is £17.50. A BBQ for ten, a kilo of chops, a kilo of ribs, a kilo of drumsticks and wings, comes to roughly £35. These are the counter prices; the website charges the same for collection or delivery.

For a bigger dawat: a whole lamb

Above about twenty-five guests it is cheaper to buy a whole lamb at £154.99 than to buy cuts. A whole lamb gives roughly 14–16kg on the bone, enough for fifty portions of curry, and we cut it however you are cooking it: all curry cut, or a mix of roasts, chops and curry cut so one animal covers two dishes. A half is £84.99. Order two days ahead for a whole animal so we can have it in.

Eid and weddings

For an Eid table where meat is the point and there are several dishes, go to 350g per adult across all dishes and split it: a third chops or ribs, a third curry cut, a third keema for kebabs. For a wedding, most caterers work at 200g boneless per guest per meat dish.
